My review of Shakeology

I decided to try Shakeology for the health benefits. I normally don’t eat the right amount of servings of veggies and fruit everyday. So, what a better way than to have it in one glass, disguised as a shake! That was incentive enough for me!

The first time I tried it, I made the mistake of just mixing the chocolate with water. I also did the same for Greenberry. I did not like the taste. I wondered why the hell anyone would want to drink that, especially when they could just go to Costco and buy a similar protein powder for cheap. I decided to give it a go again. This time, I blended the chocolate with peanut butter, banana, water and ice. (I didn’t use milk, because I wanted to cut down on the calories). I was surprised at how good it tasted. From that point on, I was hooked! That mix has become my breakfast 6 days a week. I love it! (I used to just hit either Peets Coffee or Starbucks most mornings and get a latte –I haven’t since I’ve been drinking Shakeology).

I’ve been drinking Shakeology now for about a month and half. (My favorite is chocolate, but I do also like the Greenberry). Who knows if it’s just pure coincidence, but my skin has cleared up! (All those healthy nutrients working to help clear out all the toxins of processed food in my system???) I’ve also noticed that I haven’t been craving any sweets like I used to. That is a huge plus in my book!

The start of the Push phase for ChaLEAN Extreme

So this is the start of week 5 of ChaLean Extreme. I’m a little off schedule since I was sick last week and took it easy on cardio. I was supposed to start Push last night, but instead I went to go see Bon Jovi at the HP Pavillion in San Jose.

The show itself was kind of mellow for a Bon Jovi show – but I still had a great time. I even wore my BodyBugg too! (Am wondering how many calories it will say I burned yesterday).

I’m still at only a 3 pound loss. I really need to up my cardio and limit my calories. (Though not doing too much cardio last week was probably part of the reason why I didn’t lose a pound) The Shakeology has been a huge factor in the 3 pound weight loss so far. Before I would leave the house in the morning without eating breakfast, now I can’t leave the house without having a shake. My favorite is the chocolate Shakeology.  I just love blending that with peanut butter and banana. (Sometimes I use water to limit calories, or I use 2% milk) It’s so damn good – like a regular milk shake but good for you!

Last night at the concert the thought that I was supposed to have started the Push phase kept running through my head. A little obsessive huh? A few months ago that would have never happened. But its like CLARITY just happened. All of a sudden, I know what I want! I found different workouts that I really enjoy and working out is actually fun for me! It’s not something that I dread and rush through it, just to get it done and over with. I enjoy it – its fun for me.

My goal, like I said in a prior post is to lose 15 pounds. That’s all – it may not sound like much to you, but I’m really short. I don’t like having to hide my mid-section. That’s where all the weight goes. Ugh… Buying clothes can sometime suck. Everything always looks cute on the mannequin or the hanger (or a friend), and then I put it on… And all the fat rolls show. Yuck, I hate that. So my goal is to finally lose the muffin-top of a mid-section. Are you with me? Anyone, anyone?

Unintended day off…

So I’m temporarily down for the count.  I caught the cold/flu that has been going around work and home.  I tried to do some TK this morning, but was a bit weak… so I thought it was better to just take the day off from working out and let myself rest.  I pretty much slept/lounged on the couch all day watching HGTV.  (I really feel the need to redecorate now…)  I’ve gone through 2 boxes of Kleenex tissues already. (Am wondering if I should invest in stock in Kleenex during cold/flu season?)  Oh — you MUST get the one with aloe!! Your nose will love you for that!

Anyway, I’m a bit better now (attribute that to Shakeology???), at least enough to sit at my desk and update this blog.

Tomorrow marks the start of week #4 in my pursuit of finally getting fit!!  I’d have to say that I really love working out to the ChaLEAN Extreme dvds and Turbo dvds – Chalene Johnson makes it fun.  I’m down 3 pounds so far.  It’s not Biggest Loser numbers, but it’s good enough for me – a pound a week.  Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to have weight loss like the Biggest Loser contestants?!  I could lose these stubborn 15 pounds in week!!  If only…  =)  But this is the real world.

It was perfect timing when the UPS guy showed up with my order on Tuesday. I had just finished my other protein powder earlier that morning.

I can already tell you, that I’m a fan of chocolate Shakeology. So far my favorite recipe is chocolate peanut butter banana (recipe taken from Shakeology site).

1 serving Chocolate Shakeology
1 tbsp. natural peanut butter
1 banana
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup nonfat milk
Ice to taste

Blend it and it’s a yummy milkshake! Oh so good, and good for you!!

Brown baggin’ it

The past couple of days, I’ve been pretty good about watching what I eat – portion-wise.  That has pretty much been my problem.  I CAN EAT.  And I can eat fast.  It’s a bad habit I have to break.  Plus, I have to stop going out to eat at lunch.  I need to find recipes for different brown bag lunches. Brown bag lunches that I could get excited about.

Usually what would happen if I bring lunch, by the time lunch comes around — I DON’T want to eat what I brought from home. I’d rather go out to eat. Do you have any fave brown bag lunches you like to make?  I’d like recipes please!! Thanks!!!

On the protein shake front, I have made myself drink one every morning.  I don’t have Shakeology at the moment, so I am using Wellements – the vanilla crème one.  It’s pretty good when I mix it with just fruit and ice!  Especially when I use bananas!  It comes out like a creamy banana milkshake! YUMMY!!! That’s a good way to start my morning. I have thought about getting the Magic Bullet – so that I could make a shake in the afternoon at work, but I think that’s a lil’ overkill. Plus, that could get expensive.  So if you have any fave protein shake recipes let me know!!

A new adventure for 2010

I actually like working out.  Call me crazy… but I do.  I also like to eat, which is why if I don’t workout, well, I’d be a very large girl, in such a short frame.  And I can’t have that.   Other than the obvious reasons for not wanting to be out of shape, I love to travel.  When I travel, I like to explore and that could mean walking ALL DAY LONG or climbing 400 steps up a slender stairwell just to get to the top and check out a view not to be missed.  I don’t want to be that person left behind, sitting on a bench because I’m too winded to do anything else.  I don’t want to miss out!

Because of my interest in fitness, I’ve decided to become a fitness coach/consultant for Beachbody.  Why?  I love Beachbody products, and what a better way to keep me accountable!  Being a fitness coach gives me the tools to help myself, as well as others with their weight loss/fitness and nutrition.
